Terra Classic Proposal Targets Expired IBC Bridge Client 285 and Utility Recovery

Terra Classic Proposal 12235 Seeks to Restore Dungeon Bridge and Recover Expired IBC Client 285

Terra Classic has a new governance proposal that could help restore an important cross chain connection and introduce additional on chain utility. Proposal 12235, titled Recover Client 285 + Store Utility, focuses on recovering an expired IBC client associated with the Dungeon bridge and storing utility code on the Terra Classic blockchain.

Submitted on October 31, 2026, the proposal is now in its voting period. It addresses two separate technical actions: recovering the expired client through an IBC governance message and storing utility code through a CosmWasm message.

Why Does Terra Classic Need to Recover Client 285?

IBC, short for Inter Blockchain Communication, is a protocol that allows different Cosmos ecosystem blockchains to communicate and transfer data or tokens between networks.

For these connections to work, each blockchain relies on an IBC light client. This client tracks the state of another blockchain and helps verify cross chain activity.

The Dungeon bridge has been affected by an expired IBC client identified as 07-tendermint-285.

According to an earlier technical explanation published by the development team, the client expired after exceeding its 17 day trusting period without receiving the necessary update. Relayer interruptions and unreliable RPC endpoints contributed to the problem.

As a result, the Dungeon connection became non functional.

Recovering the expired client is intended to address this issue without requiring the creation of an entirely new IBC channel. Keeping the existing connection is important because changing channels could result in different IBC token denominations, potentially affecting existing integrations, wallets and decentralized exchanges.

What Does Proposal 12235 Actually Do?

The proposal includes two on chain messages:

1. Recover IBC Client 285

The first action uses MsgRecoverClient, an IBC message designed to recover an expired client.

Its purpose is to address the expired client associated with the Dungeon bridge and help restore the existing IBC connection.

2. Store Utility Code on Terra Classic

The second action uses MsgStoreCode, a CosmWasm message that stores smart contract code on the blockchain.

This provides the on chain foundation for the proposed utility code. However, storing code does not automatically mean that a smart contract has been deployed, activated or made available to users.

The proposal description refers to this as storing a drain utility. Its exact functionality and subsequent implementation should be assessed separately rather than assuming that the utility is already operational.

Why Is This Proposal Important for the Terra Classic Ecosystem?

IBC connectivity is an important part of the Cosmos ecosystem because it allows different blockchain networks to interact without relying entirely on centralized services.

When an IBC client expires, the affected connection can stop processing cross chain operations. This can disrupt transfers and other services that depend on that connection.

Restoring the Dungeon bridge could help bring its existing cross chain functionality back online.

The proposal also introduces a separate step involving smart contract code storage. While the long term purpose is to provide additional utility, the actual functionality will depend on how the stored code is subsequently deployed and used.

For Terra Classic, maintaining existing blockchain integrations while improving infrastructure is an important part of developing its wider ecosystem.

Proposal 12235 Enters the Voting Period

Proposal 12235 was submitted on October 31, 2026, and entered its voting period.

According to the available governance records, the proposal has a deposit of 5,001,000 LUNC.

  • Proposal ID: 12235
  • Title: Recover Client 285 + Store Utility
  • Submission Date: October 31, 2026
  • Voting Deadline: November 7, 2026, at 14:52 UTC
  • Deposit: 5,001,000 LUNC
  • Status: Voting Period

The proposal remains subject to community governance. Its submission does not mean that either technical action has already been successfully implemented.

Terra Classic holders can follow the voting progress through governance platforms and review the proposal before making their decision.

What Comes Next for Terra Classic?

The outcome of Proposal 12235 will determine whether the proposed on chain actions receive governance approval.

If approved and successfully executed, the client recovery could help restore the Dungeon bridge connection, while the stored utility code could provide a foundation for further development.

However, successful execution and practical functionality will need to be verified separately.

For now, the proposal represents another infrastructure focused development effort within the Terra Classic ecosystem, addressing cross chain connectivity alongside additional on chain utility.

The community’s decision will be an important next step in determining whether these proposed changes move forward.
