LUNC Burns 553 Million in One Day as On Chain Activity Drives Major Supply Reduction

More than 553 million LUNC was burned in a single day on September 14, marking a significant increase in on chain burning activity for Terra Classic.

A total of 553,627,767 LUNC was burned on September 14 through on chain transactions. Unlike exchange specific burn figures, this amount came directly from activity taking place on the Terra Classic blockchain.

The daily figure also stands out when compared with Binance’s LUNC burn contribution earlier this month. Binance burned 334,879,422.01 LUNC during its September 1 burn, meaning the 553.6 million LUNC burned through on chain activity on September 14 was significantly higher.

553 Million LUNC Burned Through On Chain Activity

The September 14 figure highlights the potential impact that higher transaction activity can have on the LUNC supply.

Terra Classic applies an on chain tax to transactions. Under the current burn mechanism, 1.2% of eligible on chain transaction value is allocated to the LUNC burn. This means that when more transactions take place on the blockchain, the amount of LUNC burned through the mechanism can increase.

The 553,627,767 LUNC burned on September 14 therefore represents the direct result of on chain activity contributing to the burn mechanism.

Why On Chain Volume Matters for LUNC

LUNC supply reduction is closely connected to blockchain activity because the on chain burn mechanism depends on transactions taking place across the network.

Higher on chain transaction volume can generate more activity subject to the burn mechanism. As a result, sustained growth in usage could contribute to a larger amount of LUNC being burned over time.

This makes on chain volume an important metric for the Terra Classic community to monitor alongside exchange burns, staking and other developments within the ecosystem.

September 14 Burn Surpasses Binance September Burn Figure

The size of the September 14 burn becomes even more notable when compared with Binance’s reported burn earlier in the month.

Burn Source LUNC Burned
On chain transactions, September 14 553,627,767 LUNC
Binance, September 1 334,879,422.01 LUNC

The September 14 on chain burn was approximately 218.75 million LUNC higher than the 334.88 million LUNC burned by Binance on September 1.

This comparison does not mean that on chain burns will consistently exceed exchange burns. However, it demonstrates how significant transaction activity can contribute to LUNC supply reduction when on chain volume increases.

On Chain Activity Remains Important for LUNC

The latest burn data provides another example of why blockchain usage remains important for the long term LUNC supply reduction effort.

While individual daily figures can change depending on transaction activity, a sustained increase in on chain usage could create more opportunities for LUNC to be burned through the existing mechanism.

For the Terra Classic community, the September 14 figure is therefore an important development to watch. With 553,627,767 LUNC burned in one day, the data shows that on chain activity can make a meaningful contribution to the ongoing LUNC burn process.

The key factor going forward will be whether higher transaction activity can be sustained and continue generating significant LUNC burns over time.
